Moto X Rescheduled Sale After Site Crash

Following a shopping snafu that left many customers locked out of the Motorola website during a Cyber Monday sale, the phone maker has issued an apology, and announced plans for a do-over.
Customers who were unable to place an order yesterday for the $349 unlocked version of Moto X can revisit the site on Wednesday or Monday to find the same markdowns on the phone and its accessories.

"I want to apologize to our customers and fans for the issues we experienced on our website with our Cyber Monday promotion," Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside wrote in Monday a blog post.
Woodside admitted that the company not only misjudged the "overwhelming consumer demand" for its new customizable handset, but also did not sufficiently test its pre-sale site. Once inundated with concurrent orders, the Web page became unstable and shut down.

"While some orders were filled, many customers tried all day to place their orders, unsuccessfully," Woodside said. "Customers were left frustrated."
In response, Motorola has implemented a fix, and will relaunch the $349 deal at 12 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, with another promotional day on Dec. 9. On both days, customers can also get 30 percent off accessories.
"We will double the quantity of phones available, while supplies last," Woodside promised, "to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the promotion."

In the meantime, the MotoMaker page will remain open for regular business, selling the on-contract 4.7-inch Android smartphone for $99.99 via Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile — all of which now offer the customized version. A developer version via Verizon will set you back $549, but is currently out of stock.

Motorola unveiled the flagship device in early August. It sports a 1,280-by-720 display with 316 pixels per inch, as well as a curved back panel, Android 4.2.2, and touchless controls. There's also a 10-megapixel rear cam and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.
