Concept of Galaxy S5 – Not Actual Picture
It
seems like so many rumors are swirling around concerning the “Next Big
Thing,” the Samsung Galaxy S5, it is hard to keep track of them all – we
just did an article two days ago
concerning the type of display the Galaxy S5 will be delivered with –
so we thought that a little “rumor roundup” was in order. Some of you
may be tired of hearing about the Galaxy S5 or could care less about the
device – and that is OK, simply stop reading the article and return to
AndroidHeadlines main page to select a more interesting topic. However,
the Samsung Galaxy S5 is going to be the first and most anticipated
launch of 2014, and therefore it warrants our deepest probing to get the
to the facts of this device, and in order to do that we have to shovel
through a lot of rumors.
Body Material
One of the most
controversial pieces of the Galaxy S5 is will Samsung continue the use
of a polycarbonate body with a faux leather backing like the Galaxy Note
3, or move to a completely metal body, as so many have been yammering
for? There have been many rumors – one that there may be a plastic and a metal version – but the latest money is on one model with a metal body. I just hope that removable batteries and MicroSD cards will still be part of the equation.
Display
This
is another area where rumors are all over the place, and we really have
no definitive answer – there are rumors that the display will follow
the Galaxy Round convention, which really does help the reflections and outside viewing,
and makes a lot of sense since it is already in production and tested
in the Asian market. Another rumor is that the screen will be a “wrap around”
the edges design, giving the user three possible screens to view – the
main screen and two smaller screens on the side for notifications, and
that all three screens will operate independently of each other. The
third rumor is that Samsung will step up the resolution to 2560 x 1440 and use an LCD display rather than the Super AMOLED.
Camera
Here we are pretty certain that the Galaxy S5 will pack a new 16MP shooter using the ISOCELL technology, which will allow better low-light pictures. The jury is still out on the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization),
although Samsung had said it would be impossible for a supplier to
manufacturer enough of the component to cover the estimated Galaxy S5
sales figures.
Fingerprint or Iris Scanner
This is also a
hot rumor, but it seems as though Samsung has made it quite clear that
they will not follow Apple or HTC and offer a fingerprint scanner, but
rather an Iris scanner
– this according to patents filed by Samsung. It make sense since
Samsung has already done so much work on the the Galaxy S4 and Note
series using the eye to keep the display lit, stop your video when you
turn away, and to control scrolling on the display. However, there is no
indication it will be perfected in time for the Galaxy S5′s debut.
Processor and Miscellaneous
Right now the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is still the top dog as we wait for the model 805 to debut, so right now word is that the 800 clocked at 2.5GHz
may find its way into the Galaxy S5 at this point. I, for one, would
like to see Samsung hold off long enough to include the newer processor,
or else the S5 would end up “behind” those competing devices released
later in the year or else come out with an “upgraded” model, which would
only hurt early sales or upset earlier customers. It will most likely
come with 3GB of RAM and certainly come with Android 4.4 KitKat on board
and will certainly not be 64-bit, if the Galaxy S5 starts its rumored
production in January.
