Google is reportedly working on smart thermostats named PowerMeter

google+thermostat

You might remember a few years ago when Google was trying to develop a smart thermostat called PowerMeter. That never fully developed, but the idea seems to be reappearing at Google’s headquarters. Mountain View has been testing Internet-connected thermostats that help users keep tabs on their energy activity and adjust accordingly. The project is reportedly named EnergySense, while the hardware is developed by a third party, possibly someone like Ecobee.

Internet-connected home appliances are rising in popularity, and Google is smart to want in. Nest, which is the leader in such devices, began with connected thermostats, but they have since moved on to connected smoke detectors. Definitely something to keep an eye on.
