Google has this hobby where it goes out and buys small companies that it’s interested in. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like Google has any plans in particular for certain companies its buys, and sometimes the plans are very drawn out and specific.
This time, however, things will certainly get interesting. Google announced its purchase of Boston Dynamics, a robotics engineering company known for its freakish animal-like robots.
It’s not immediately clear what Google plans to do with Boston Dynamics, but considering its interest in automated cars, robotics, etc. in the past, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that big things are to come from the company. Details and terms of the deal are also unclear as of now but expect that information to come out soon.
