5c bringing in more new users hile iPhone 5s sells best

While the iPhone 5s is outselling the iPhone 5c, the latter device is bringing more new users to the iOS platform. While Android is still the leading platform across Europe, the release of the 5s and 5c have provided a significant boost to Apple. And while the 5s remains the most popular of the two by far, the iPhone 5c has had the most success in bringing users over from rival platforms, according Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director for Kantar Worldpanel ComTech:
Almost half of iPhone 5C owners switched from competitor brands, particularly Samsung and LG, compared with 80% of 5S owners who upgraded from a previous iPhone model. The good news for Apple is that this wider appeal is attracting significant switching from competitors. Almost half of iPhone 5C owners switched from competitor brands, particularly Samsung and LG, compared with 80% of 5S owners who upgraded from a previous iPhone model.
The 5s is still outselling the 5c. In the U.K., for instance, the 5s outsells the 5c three to one. But there is still clear demand for the 5c in some areas. Lower income households tend to favor the 5c over the 5s. Someone looking to buy an iPhone 5c is likely to be a bit older. People buying the iPhone 5c are more likely to be first-time Apple users as well.
The release of the new phones also helped boost Apple in other parts of the world. Apple had 52.6% marketshare in the U.S. during October, while in Japan, their share hit 76.1%. This is also due to the release of the phones on NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest carrier.
Continental Europe continues to be an issue for Apple, because phone subsidies remain lower than in the U.S., meaning that customers have a higher initial cost for their devices. However, Apple position is improving in the U.K., where sales have been driven by the iPhone 5s, and their marketshare there has risen to 28.7%.
