HTC reveals another gold-colored One With Less Gold

Haven’t you heard? Gold smartphones are all the rage these days, or at least HTC seems to think so. Ever since the iPhone 5S launched with its Champagne hue, we were all surprised by how well it was received. However, we’re not entirely surprised that HTC is introducing another Gold HTC One, after all it’s a competitive market out there. Besides, there’s nothing quite like owning a device that not-so-subtlety says “my phone cost more than yours, which makes me a better person”. Needless to say, this HTC One will actually be up for sale sometime in the near future, as PocketNow is reporting.
You might remember HTC’s first attempt at a Gold HTC One, that was genuinely made out of the precious metal. Hence the $4,000 plus price tag and the very soft exterior. It was only meant as a very fancy tie-in with the MOBO music awards in the UK and we’re sure it certainly turned some heads. As you might have already guessed, this is of course the same phone as the device that’s since launched in Red, Blue and Black. The same Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB of RAM, and gorgeous 4.7-inch 1080p display are all present and accounted for.

Philip Blair, President of HTC EMEA, had this to say about the new shiny HTC One guise: “Building on the all metal design of the HTC One, and the recent success of the HTC 18 carat gold MOBO phone, we are excited to have developed our own gold device, offering yet more choice to consumers”. It’s hard to argue with him, after all choice is one of the most powerful factors at play in the market today, with so many of us walking around with black slates coming in and out of our pockets.

There’s no word on official availability just yet, which will of course vary from region-to-region but, we can’t see HTC shipping millions upon millions of these units. After all, a certain credence has to come with a gold smartphone, non? This isn’t being billed as a “Limited Edition” however, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was shipped in limited quantities and exclusive to only a few retailers.
