Two New Samsung Galaxy S5 Features Leaked from Korean Site

The follow-up device to most popular Samsung smartphone ever, the Galaxy S4, is naturally going to draw some attention and speculation, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 has not disappointed us. We actually did a Galaxy S5 roundup of all of the rumors last week, and two of the items on the list of rumors have, apparently made the cut according to a reliable Korean site, ZDNet. One is not so surprising, but the other feature is both exciting and could be a real “feature changer” for upcoming Samsung devices…provided it works properly.
The first item that we should see is the new Quad-HD Display sporting a 2560 x 1440 resolution, with either an LCD or Super AMOLED. The latest rumor is the LCD display type, but ZDNet did not indicate what type the display would be, only that it would be the Quad-HD resolution. Samsung claims in an internal report that they would be the first company to introduce the 2560 x 1440 display at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, during February 24-27. However, China’s VIVO is on their way to Quad-HD smartphone production and so is LG Electronics, so it will be interesting to see if Samsung really is the first company to actually used this new display on a production device.

Iris Scanning

The other big announcement is the inclusion of an Iris Scanner, rather than a fingerprint scanner – which is really no surprise “seeing” that Samsung has already done so much with the “eyeball” technology even on their current phones. Samsung has also said that they simply could not hook up with an Asian supplier that could produce the quantity they would need, let alone a reliable fingerprint scanner. The Iris scanner would be a lot nicer and potentially more secure than a fingerprint scanner and Samsung would not have to put a physical button or device on the outside of the smartphone, making for a more elegant and clean look.
