If you’re a subscriber to the school of thought that dictates
“where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” it’s getting hard to see through
all the smoke surrounding Apple’s upcoming “iPad Pro.” Apple has been rumored by at least a half-dozen solid sources — The Wall Street Journal among them — to be working on a new larger version of its iPad
tablet that sports a 12.9-inch display. One recent report even
suggested Apple has two iPad Pro models in the works, one that will
debut early next year and a second that will launch sometime in the second half of 2014. Now, another new report adds more fuel to the iPad Pro fire.
In a report that’s something of a jumbled mess, International Business Times claims to have some details on Apple’s upcoming larger iPads. Parts of the report appear to contain information gleaned from the site’s own sources, while other details are rehashed from various other websites and analysts, but not confirmed.
IBT appears to state that its own sources have confirmed the “iPad Pro” moniker, and that Apple is indeed working on multiple versions of the new slate. It also offers specific launch timeframes for the new larger iPad tablets — the first version with a quad HD (2K resolution) display will reportedly debut in April next year, and Apple will follow it up with an ultra HD (4K resolution) version in October.
October, by the way, has also been rumored to be Apple’s launch target for two new iPhone models and an “iWatch.”
It’s unclear from the report, but it’s possible that Apple’s quad HD tablet will have a standard 9.7-inch display and the ultra HD iPad that launches later in the year will be the “Pro” model. The rest of the details in IBT’s article appear to be picked from a variety of earlier rumors and research from banks including Barclays.
