Moto X On Republic Wireless To Get Android 4.4 KitKat Early Next Year, Report Says

Didn’t score an off-contract Moto X earlier today? You actually have a pretty awesome alternative, via Republic Wireless, which offers the device for $299 without the need for a two-year agreement. If you do go that route, the carrier on Wednesday took to its Twitter to assure customers that the device will definitely receive the star treatment, with plans to roll out Android 4.4 KitKat early next year. That’s not as juicy as a precise date, but early 2014 could mean beginning of January, which isn’t all that far off.

The Moto X received KitKat—on all the Big Four carriers, no less—not long after the updated OS was unveiled at the end of October. As Phandroid notes, it’s likely that some extra testing is needed for the Republic Wireless version since the device runs a custom ROM to help it more seamlessly transition between Wi-Fi and a mobile data connection.
You can only get the black or white versions of the Moto X through Republic Wireless, but if you don’t care much for customizing your device, the off-contract price is tough to pass up.
