Android 4.3 and Galaxy Gear Support Now Rolling Out For Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3

verizon-galaxy-s3-43

For those of you on Verizon with the Galaxy S3, you probably didn’t think you’d see the Android 4.3 update this year. But Verizon and Samsung have decided to push out a little Christmas gift to all their Galaxy S3 users. Starting today, Galaxy S3 users on Verizon should begin receiving an OTA which updates their device to build number I535VRUCML1, which is not Kitkat, it’s still Jelly Bean and it’s Android 4.3. There’s not a whole lot of new stuff here with Android 4.3, but we do get Galaxy Gear compatibility, due to the fact that Android 4.3 brings in Bluetooth 4.0 LE.

Additionally the update does bring some other enhancements for Samsung’s skin (Touchwiz) and preinstalled apps. There’s also Samsung KNOX support coming with this update. So there’s a lot of small stuff in this update. Not a lot of new stuff, other than Galaxy Gear compatibility. But at this point, I’d say wait on purchasing a Galaxy Gear, as Samsung is rumored to be releasing a new one with the Galaxy S5 very soon.

The OTA is currently rolling out to Verizon Galaxy S3 devices out there. If you want to try and grab the update now, just head into Settings, tap on About Phone, and System Updates. This is probably a staged rollout like most other updates. So it may take a couple weeks for everyone to get it. As long as Samsung and Verizon don’t pull the update, like Samsung had to for the AT&T Galaxy S4. If you’re interested in the full changelog from Verizon, you can check out the Galaxy S3 support PDF here for all the details.
