On Tuesday the Fedora Project announced the release of Fedora 20 "Heisenbug," the latest version of the free, Linux-based operating system. This release ushers in support for ARM CPUs, cloud and virtualization improvements, new developer features, desktop improvements, and additional enhancements.
According to the group, ARM is now supported as a primary architecture. "While x86/x86_64 serves as the default architecture for the majority of Fedora users, ARM is rapidly growing in stature and already dominates the mobile world. Beyond mobile and the maker movement, ARM shows great promise as a powerful and cost-effective technology for the server world, leading to primary support from Fedora to satisfy end users and developers targeting the ARM platform," the group writes.
For desktop improvements, the new Fedora includes GNOME 3.10, which features a new music application (gnome-music), a new maps application (gnome-maps), a revamp for the system status menu, and Zimbra support in Evolution. Also included in this release is KDE Plasma Workspaces 4.11, which features faster Nepomuk indexing, improvements to Kontact, KScreen integration in KWin, Metalink/HTTP support for KGet, and much more.
On the developer side, Fedora 20 includes WildFly 8, previously known as JBoss Application Server, allowing developers to run Java EE 7 applications with significantly higher speed. There's also Ruby on Rails 4.0, which keeps Fedora up-to-date and allows current Ruby on Rails developers to stay in step with the project.
As for Fedora 20's cloud and virtualization improvements, the group lists first-class cloud images, VM Snapshot UI with virt-manager, and ARM on x86 with libvirt/virt-manager. The group also lists a few other features including NetworkManager improvements and no default Sendmail. Syslog is replaced by system journal, which acts as the default logging solution for minimal and other selected installation methods.

"Fedora 20 continues Fedora's history of delivering innovative technologies ahead of the curve, bringing to bear new features that better enable virtualization and cloud computing within the operating system."
